Laser Wood Cut Jewelry

Description:

For this lesson, we learned a new program called, CorelDRAW.  In this program, we learned how to create images that would engrave or cut through wood and in turn, creating beautiful and classic looking handmade jewelry, keychains, magnets, etc. once we printed them.

Process:

To begin this process, students began with a worksheet featuring many shapes to design their own patterns and original designs. The students had 3 prompts to choose from:
1. Quotes with a design and/or symbols representing a meaning
2. Parts of a whole (person: heart, brain, hand, foot)
3. Symbols of the self (what represents you?)

Then we learned the program in basic forms.  Then the next day we learned how to transform our own images into a design on the program or use a photograph to create images.  When they were finished, I printed them all out for them to create their usable objects which then completed our lesson to have a reflection time of our new handmade belongings!
